Blackstone has closed its fifth energy transition private equity fund at its $8.7bn hard cap a year after launch, ESG Today reported on October 19. The final close is more than 50% above the $5.6bn predecessor, BETP IV, which closed earlier in 2025.
BETP V has already started putting capital out: its investment period began in June, and it has funded three platform companies and made three acquisitions. The platforms are Kindle, a North America power generation business; Fisterra, an energy transition and sustainability asset developer and investment company; and Viridon, an electric transmission platform. The acquisitions are Flow Control Systems, a data center cooling solutions provider; Dresser Utility Solutions, a utilities-focused measurement, control and repair company; and DarkVision, which provides inspection services for energy infrastructure assets.
The mandate behind those holdings is control-oriented equity across the energy transition value chain: equipment, service and technology providers, and large-scale infrastructure projects that contribute to decarbonization. Blackstone Energy Transition Partners generally excludes investments in the ownership of hydrocarbon reserves and in extraction, keeping the fund on the hardware, services and grid side of the transition.
David Foley, global head of Blackstone Energy Transition Partners, said: "We believe there is a generational opportunity for experienced investors in the energy transition to provide solutions to the challenges posed by growing demand for electricity."
Blackstone says BETP's energy transition investments have generated a 34% net IRR since 1997. In 2022 it estimated an opportunity to invest about $100bn in energy transition and climate change solutions over the following decade.
