  • The fund's seed portfolio spans about 3 GW of thermal power generation across U.S. electricity markets.

Ara Partners has raised $2.5 billion at the final close of Ara Energy Fund I, its inaugural conventional-energy fund, ESG Today reported on Oct. 21.

The total comprises $1.8 billion of fund commitments and $700 million of associated co-investment capital. The co-investment equals about 39% of the fund commitments.

Ara launched the vehicle in 2025, after forming Ara Energy with HF Capital, to acquire existing, cash-generating power, biofuels and distribution businesses. The stated aim is assets essential to meeting global energy demand, with technology risk avoided and geographies chosen where dislocation creates an entry point. North America is the main market. Emissions cuts are pursued where proven technologies make them economically accretive.

Shameek Konar, partner and head of Ara Energy, said: “Global energy demand is rising and growing more complex, and meeting the demand requires assets that are optimized and positioned for the long term.”

The fund's seed portfolio spans about 3 GW of thermal power generation across U.S. electricity markets. It also holds ethanol production facilities with annual capacity of roughly 400 million gallons, and the JET retail fuel network of about 970 stations across Germany and Austria. Germany has legislated a 2045 end to fossil-fuel use, a date this publication has noted rests on interim targets with no cost estimate.

The close drew Ara's existing investor base plus pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, endowments and foundations across North America and Europe, according to the firm.

Ara reported $6.8 billion in regulatory assets under management as of Oct. 17, according to ESG records.

In September, Ara took a majority stake in the engineering firm Bryden Wood, as this publication reported.
