Auxxo closes a €33m fund and bets on co-founder matching

The Berlin firm's second gender-lens vehicle pairs a 20% founder-share floor with a matchmaking platform aimed upstream of the deal flow.

At a glance

35-second brief
  • The Berlin firm's second gender-lens vehicle pairs a 20% founder-share floor with a matchmaking platform aimed upstream of the deal flow.

  • Auxxo closed its second gender-lens venture fund at €33.3 million (US$38.2 million) and paired the close, as ESG Today reported, with a launch that could prove more important than the capital: a pan-European Founder Matchmaking Platform designed to pair would-be co-founders and steer early ideas toward company formation.

  • Founded in 2019 to advance women as founders and investors in European venture, Auxxo is sector agnostic and targets pre-seed and seed startups across Europe, but its term sheet carries a hard ownership test: at least one female founder must hold at least 20% of founder shares.

Auxxo closed its second gender-lens venture fund at €33.3 million (US$38.2 million) and paired the close, as ESG Today reported, with a launch that could prove more important than the capital: a pan-European Founder Matchmaking Platform designed to pair would-be co-founders and steer early ideas toward company formation.

Founded in 2019 to advance women as founders and investors in European venture, Auxxo is sector agnostic and targets pre-seed and seed startups across Europe, but its term sheet carries a hard ownership test: at least one female founder must hold at least 20% of founder shares. The new vehicle is the second Female Catalyst Fund, following a €19 million first vintage in 2021.

The 11-company portfolio spans climate data, AI, robotics, space, deep tech and healthcare, including Emidat, Resolutiion, Stanhope AI, Kito AI, Marble Imaging, Noxon GmbH, SEAL Robotics, BioOrbit, NanoStruct GmbH, Delta Labs and Radiogenesis. It reads less like a bet on a single vertical than a display of where the ownership test can be applied. Limited partners include Aurum Impact, EnBW New Ventures, Cherry Ventures and Speedinvest, with the European Investment Fund anchoring a base of family offices, business angels and founders that is more than half women, the firm said.

Auxxo Principal Alena Redeker tied the platform to a pipeline problem, beginning with a German statistic: only 19% of German founders are women. "We still lack our fair share of female founders," she told ESG Today. "We want to change this by helping ambitious entrepreneurial talent form diverse teams." The platform is designed to operate across Europe, so the German number is a starting point rather than the whole map.

The 20% share floor is the fund's most defensible term, separating it from gender-lens vehicles that stop at representation metrics. The matchmaking platform is the riskier bet, because building founder supply is slower and less measurable than deploying capital. The 11-company portfolio is near-term evidence for the first half of that thesis; the share of female co-founded teams in the next pipeline will test the second. If the platform compounds, Auxxo becomes a template for attacking the pipeline rather than simply funding what it produces. If it does not, the firm has a carefully structured vehicle competing for a thin deal flow.
